Creative Sundays With Jo Ann: Celebrate With Porky O’Connor
I had a different card ready to share today but my hubby was surprised that I wasn’t going to do something for St. Patrick’s Day, which is next weekend. Last year I colored the fox, from the Feelin’ Foxy Stamp Set, green and shared the story of my Irish ancestry. You can see it here. He encouraged me to rethink the blog that I had written for today and use Pinky The Pig. For those who have followed me, you know that I love to take Pinky and dress him/her up for different occasions. So…I give you a green pig! I couldn’t help but think of the Dr. Seuss book, “Green Eggs and Ham” while I was coloring him! LOL

I started the card by building a simple background using the Polka Dot Background Stencil Set. I used the largest dots and blended on Twisted Citron Distress Oxide with a Picket Fence Life Changing Blender Brush. They really do work like a dream. The next layer was a medium size dot using Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide. The last layer was the smallest dot using Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide. I heat embossed this layer using clear embossing powder. I love how the layers give the background dimension.
There was a little white showing so I softened it with regular Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The smaller dots resisted the color, because of the embossing powder, but the larger dots got a little too dark so I laid the stencil back down and went over them again with the Twisted Citron Distress Oxide. That’s the beauty of the Distress Oxides, you can layer them over other colors.
I stamped the images onto #80 Neenah cardstock, using Copic friendly Gina K Black Amalgam Ink. The beer mug was hand drawn with a Copic 0.3 Multiliner and fussy cut with scissors.

What is an Irish celebration without some shamrocks? I did die cut them…but then decided to cut the stems off. I covered the leftover black stem marks with a white gel pen.

Looking through my stamp sets for a sentiment, I found the Celebration Sentiments Stamp Set. I used the coordinating Celebration Die Set to cut four sets from black cardstock. They were stacked and glued using Gina K Connect Glue.
The images were glued to the background panel. The top hat and the mug of beer have Scotch Foam tape behind them for added dimension. The panel was glued to a piece of black cardstock, then to a #110 Neenah Solar Crest Cardstock cardbase, using a Kokuyo Tape Runner.
Everybody can be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. We will be eating Corned Beef and Cabbage, drinking beer, and greeting each other with “Top of The Morning To You!” Wear something green and join in the fun!
As always, thank you for sharing a bit of your time with me today on another creative journey.
Joyfully, Jo Ann
