Creative Sundays With Jo Ann: Go Hog Wild!
This weekend is the national holiday commemorating Memorial Day. First and foremost, it is a day when we honor those who have served the country to defend our freedom. But for many of us, it is also the time when we gather with family and friends and fire up our barbecues. It is the beginning of summer and many more cookouts to come. Pinky the Pig cracks me up. He comes with many items that he can hold but I just had to give him some grill tools. And yes, I do see the irony that a pig is cooking a sausage. It makes me chuckle. I hope that it isn’t anybody that he knows!! LOL

I stamped the pig, from the Pinky The Pig Stamp Set, onto thin copy paper. I loosely penciled in his chef hat, fork, spatula, sausage, and apron.
I stamped another image, onto #80 Neenah cardstock, with Simon Says Black Intense Ink. Rather than redraw the pieces, I used a lightbox to trace them onto the cardstock. I went back over the pencil lines with a black Copic 0.3 Multiliner. I also stamped a bow tie and glasses (or safety goggles) from the same stamp set.
I colored all the pieces with Copic markers. You can find the colors that I used listed in the picture. I got a little out of control with my pinks. He looks like the pig from the Piggly Wiggly supermarket! If you have ever lived in the south, you know what I am talking about. The nostrils were colored using a black Gelly Roll Pen.
I die cut the pig, using the Coordinating Dies, and fussy cut the other pieces using my Cutter Bee Scissors. I had to add a little slit in the hooves to hold the utensils at the correct angle. It was all glued together using a Lawn Fawn Glue Pen.
For the background I taped two Hero Arts Oval Infinity Dies together, with Thermo O Web Purple Tape, and cut a frame from another piece of #80 Neenah cardstock. I created a sky using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and a stencil that I created months ago using the Cloud Border Die Set. The grass is a blend of Twisted Citron and Mowed Grass Distress Inks.
I colored the edges of another piece of #80 cardstock, and the thin frame, using the same B29 copic marker that I used in the apron. Everything was reassembled using a Kokoyu tape runner.
The sentiments are from the Ham It Up Stamp Set. A trick I use to check out my sentiments, and their alignment, is to stamp it first on scrap packaging. I also stamped an additional sentiment on the inside. The pig was loaded up with Scotch Foam Tape for some dimension. Yes…I over tape, but I don’t like saggage.
Everything was assembled and glued to a #110 Neenah cardstock card base. This card would be perfect for Father’s Day as well. You only need to add a Father’s Day greeting to the inside.
