“Joy To The World” is one of my favorite Christmas carols. Our Christmas Eve services always ended at midnight with us singing this hymn, thus ending the season of Advent and waiting, and ushering in the miracle of Christmas.

This is one of my favorite hymns…and coloring with colored pencils on dark cardstock is one of my favorite mediums. It always seems to add elegance to any card. The coloring takes very little time so this card could easily be mass produced and used as your holiday card. Bonus: it is a one layer card, so it mails easily and uses regular postage.

I started by stamping the image, from the Rejoice Stamp Set, onto Simon Says Stamp Slate Gray Cardstock, using Versamark Ink. It was then heat embossed using Simon Says Stamp Silver Embossing Powder. Make sure to use an anti static tool before stamping. Stray embossing powder shows easily on dark cardstock.

I colored in the image using Prismacolor colored pencils. Start with light strokes and build up the color gradually. Once the paper has reached it’s maximum of wax it will not accept any more color. Also, a sharp pencil is imperative for coloring the small areas.

To add more depth to the sentiment, I added shadows to the right side and bottom edge of each letter stroke with a Black Gelly Roll Pen.

For a little extra shine and sparkle, I added a thin line along each edge of the card using a T-ruler and a Silver Uni-Ball Signo Sparkly Glitter Gel Pen.

The card front was mounted onto a piece of Simon Says Stamp Smoke Gray Cardstock, and then onto a folded #110 Neenah Solar Cardstock card base, using a Kokuyo Tape Runner.

See…simple yet elegant, classy, and easily mass produced!
