Creative Sundays With Jo Ann: My Heartfelt Sympathy
Sympathy cards are the hardest and writing about them is hard as well. Sadly, I have needed quite a few in the past week or so and I was totally unprepared. When I need them I am usually not in any mood to make one so it is best to have several on hand. I tend to keep them simple. Fortunately, Honey Bee has a stamp set that has many sentiments that are perfect for when you need to reach out and let your friends and loved ones know that you are thinking of them in their time of sorrow.

Today’s card starts with a simple background. I smooshed Shaded Lilac, Tumbled Glass, and Weathered Wood Distress Inks onto a long acrylic block, lightly sprayed it with water, and laid it on a piece of Tim Holtz Watercolor cardstock. Let it sit for a minute to let the paper absorb some of the ink.
I stamped a flower, from the Cosmos Stamp Set, onto another piece of watercolor paper using Black Archival Ink. I extended the stem using a Sharpie Pen. I watercolored it using the same Distress Inks.
The flower was cut using the coordinating Cosmos Die Set. Because the image is longer than the die, I made sure that the cutting plates stopped short of the end of the die before sending it through the machine. I finished cutting out the image with scissors.
I wanted the card to stay soft and neutral so I cut the sympathy sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Slate Gray Cardstock, using the With Sympathy Die Set. I cut three more and glued them together using Gina K Connect Glue.
The rest of the sentiment was stamped using the With Sympathy Stamp Set. I prepped the cardstock with an Anti Static Powder Pouch before stamping with clear Versamark Ink and heat embossing with Hero Arts White Detail Powder and a heat gun. I added it to the card with a small piece of foam tape.
The card is fairly flat so it will be easy to mail. I know that it is difficult to think that you will need cards like this, but sadly, we do all too often. It is helpful to have them on hand and ready when you need them!
As always, thank you for sharing a bit of your time with me today on another creative journey.
Joyfully, Jo Ann
