Valentine’s Day will be here in less than a month. Wasn’t it just Christmas?? As a child, I remember cutting out big red paper hearts, gluing them to a construction paper card, gluing on a whole lot of glitter, and proudly presenting it to my mother, along with a heart shape box full of candy. I also have vivid memories of signing my name to stacks of inexpensive dime store Valentines. You know…the kind with the cheesy sentiments meant for kids. We each decorated shoeboxes, again with hearts and excessive amounts of glitter, and cut a slot in the top. We went around the classroom on Valentine’s Day and left one in each classmate’s box. Today’s card is a little more sophisticated and would be ideal for either a woman or a man.

I started today’s card by lightly tracing the insides of the Rectangle Windows Trio Die onto a piece of #80 Neenah Cardstock.

I started with the XO, from the Mae The Mouse Stamp Set. Using a MISTI stamping tool, I stamped the image in the center of the bottom window using Copic friendly Gina K Amalgam Ink. I left the stamp on the MISTI and slid the card to the left and the right to create a pattern. As you can see in the picture, I stamp on a piece of acetate to see if the stamp is in the right spot. It also saves me from having to clean the stamp each time I lay it down to align it. When I have it lined up properly, I remove the acetate and restamp.

I selected the open heart, from the same Mae The Mouse Stamp Set, to stamp the middle window. For quick and easy masks, I stack a couple of full stick Post It notes, stamp the image, and cut multiples at once. Each time that I stamped a heart I covered it with a mask.

The top window was created the same way, using the small envelopes from the same stamp set. I stacked the masks and stored them with my stamps, to be used again in the future.

The pencil lines were erased and the images were colored, using Copic markers. The colors used were different combinations of:

When I was finished coloring the hearts, I added the cute little sayings to the insides using various colors of Archival Ink.

I tried several sentiments and die cut words, to add to the front, but it took away from the images and felt cluttered. I stamped the sentiment, from the Brie Mine Stamp Set, on the inside.

A panel was cut, using the Rectangle Window Trio Die, and Scotch Foam Tape was added to the back. I added small strips of colored cardstock to the sides, using RV66 and BG15 Copic markers to create matching cardstock. They were added with a Gina K Connect glue pen.

I love the clean and simple lines of this modern Valentine’s Day Card! It’s a great way to use many of the small images included in the stamp set.
