I Vike You Very Much
When I saw the Viking Stamp Set and Die, from My Favorite Things, I couldn’t wait to create something with it. I stamped it with Simon Says Stamp’s Intense Black Ink onto Neenah cardstock. This ink and paper are perfect for use with Alcohol Ink Markers. I drew laces on his boots, and extra lines to separate his fur vest from his overcoat, using a .05 Copic Multiliner pen. I colored it using Copic Markers, and cut it out with the coordinating die set.
I cut multiple size circles using Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Circle Frames in both khaki and white cardstock. I settled on the second largest in the set. I eventually cut a total of four khaki circles and glued them together.
I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do for a background but I knew that I wanted to include a Viking longship with fjords and mountains. I googled cartoon images of the longships and sketched out a ship, with some mountains in the background, onto one of the white inner circles. I traced over my drawing using the .05 Copic Multiliner pen.
The scene was colored using Copic markers. I knew that it would be recessed in the background so I didn’t spend an enormous amount of time on it.
I laid all the pieces out on the card panel to check out the placement and stamped the sentiment with Ranger’s Potting Soil Archival Ink, using my Tim Holtz Stamping Platform. When I was sure that it was straight I went ahead and glued the khaki circles down and then inlaid the background piece.
Because there was dimension to the outer circles I needed to give some support to the Viking. I used ample dimensional tape on the back and added Ranger Matte Medium to the places where it would stick to the khaki circle. I layered the panel on top of another piece of khaki cardstock and taped it to a white cardstock base.
With the extra drawing this is not a card that I would be able to duplicate easily. For me, he’s more of a “one and done” for somebody special. He will still be cute in a much simpler layout and I am sure that I will use him a lot.
Thanks for joining me today on another creative journey!
Joyfully, Jo Ann
